Improving Services for New York Heroes

  • Helped pass $8 million for the Dwyer Peer Support Program to help veterans transition back into civilian life.

  • Co-sponsored legislation to increase compensation for Gold Star parents.

  • Helped pass the Lifetime Liberty Pass, providing free or discounted use of state parks, historic sites, and recreational facilities to veterans and Gold Star families.

  • Helped pass legislation to ensure that all Vietnam War veterans are recognized and have access to veterans’ services.

  • Co-sponsored and passed legislation to study and end issue of veteran homelessness.

  • Passed legislation creating a new committee to ensure veterans’ services meet needs of women veterans.

  • Supported extension of the “Hire-a-Vet” tax credit and advocating for academic credits for veterans at state colleges and universities.

The brave men and women who have served in our armed forces deserve more than our respect and gratitude; they deserve quality and accessible benefits. I’ve used my position to advocate for legislation and resources to put an end to veteran homelessness, to ensure veterans and their families are fairly compensated for their service, and to give veterans tools to help them succeed in civilian life.
