Bolstering first responder agencies throughout New York

  • Helped pass funding to provide stipends to volunteer firefighters who complete foundational training.

  • Helped pass legislation to allow local governments to enact a property tax exemption for volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers.

  • Voted to create a $25 million fund to help volunteer fire departments construct or renovate facilities and purchase equipment.

  • Passed legislation to create a recruitment and retention task force to fortify the ranks of volunteer fire departments.

  • Co-sponsor of legislation to update benefits for volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers who suffer permanent or partial permanent disabilities in the line of duty.

  • Helped pass legislation to allow volunteer fire departments to recover the cost of emergency medical services from insurance companies.

Delivering resources for local police and fire departments

  • Delivered nearly $200,000 for Cheektowaga Police Department to help construct a new training facility, a mental wellness program and support dog, and technology for a drug diversion-to-treatment program.

  • Secured over $160,000 for Lancaster Police Department to purchase body cameras, ballistic helmets, a radar speed trailer, fingerprint collection technology, and AEDs.

  • Secured $120,000 for Depew Police Department to purchase body cameras.

  • Delivered $75,000 for a new educational program to improve recruitment and diversity in local law enforcement.

  • Secured $75,000 for Bellevue Fire Department to purchase self-contained breathing apparatus, an ATV, and other equipment.

  • Secured $125,000 for Lancaster Fire Department to purchase breathing apparatus and for the Village of Lancaster to make improvements to Firefighter’s Park.

  • Obtained state funding to purchase breathing equipment for the Depew Fire Department, saving village taxpayers $250,000. 

  • Secured $50,000 for U-Crest Fire Company for an automated CPR machine, radios, and a Jaws of Life tool.

  • Secured $275,000 for South Line Fire Department for new self-contained breathing apparatus and an emergency traffic signal system.

I take very seriously my responsibility to support our heroic first responders. I’ll always fight to ensure our law enforcement officers, our firefighters, our emergency responders, and our health care workers have the resources they need to do their jobs safely and protect the public.
