Advancing Women’s Rights
Passed the Equal Rights Amendment to codify reproductive health in our state constitution.
Passed legislation to guarantee a woman’s right to choose, protect the confidentiality of women who exercise their constitutional rights, and protect reproductive healthcare providers who practice legally and responsibly in New York from retaliation.
Passed law to eliminate the “pink tax” pricing discrimination on women’s products.
Passed laws to eliminate the wage gap by prohibiting employers from seeking salary
Worked to strengthen laws prohibiting sexual harassment in the workplace.
Helped to secure hundreds of millions to raises wages for chronically underpaid childcare and home care employees, most of whom are women and people of color.
Fighting Racial Discrimination
Helped pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act to prevent voter suppression or vote dilution of members of a specific race, color, or ethnicity.
Voted to pass a package of legislation to eliminate discriminatory real estate practices.
Helped pass legislation to prohibit racial discrimination based on natural hair or hairstyles.
Helped pass $30 million to support critical services for Asian American and Pacific Islander New Yorkers and to combat hate crimes., as well as tens of thousands for local AAPI organizations, including BASCO, CHAI, and the Chinese Club of WNY.
Supporting LGBTQ+ Communities
Helped ban use of discredited “conversion therapy” on minors and protect young people from this harmful, anti-LGBTQ pseudoscience.
Helped pass legislation allowing for restoration of benefits for veterans who were discharged less than honorably due to LGBTQ+ status, sexual assault, traumatic brain injury, or PTSD.
Boosting Inclusivity and Accessibility
Supported legislation to establish a tax credit for businesses that employ people with disabilities.
Supported legislation to create a tax credit for either new or retrofitted primary residences that are accessible to people with physical disabilities.
Successfully advocated for the state Department of Transportation to authorize road signs to protect children with autism.
